A couple of years ago, we traveled to Scotland, where we visited several iconic Harry Potter locations:
- Alnwick Castle, famous for its broomstick lessons.
- Durham Cathedral, which served as part of Hogwarts in the films.
- And most famously, the Glenfinnan Viaduct, where the Hogwarts Express crosses the stunning landscape.
This year, we explored Southern England, and to our delight, we discovered even more magical Harry Potter filming locations!
Lacock Abbey
Stepping into Lacock Abbey feels like walking through the halls of Hogwarts. Here, you’ll recognize the corridors seen in multiple scenes, including the room where Harry encounters the Mirror of Erised. One of the classrooms even features a cauldron, which I always assumed was a movie prop—but to my surprise, it’s been there for centuries!
Oxford
Oxford is another treasure trove of Harry Potter filming spots. The Bodleian Library served as the backdrop for the hospital wing, where Harry recovers after his many adventures.
Though we didn’t have time to visit them all, Oxford has even more magical locations:
- Duke Humfrey’s Library – The setting for the restricted section, where Harry sneaks in with his invisibility cloak.
- Christ Church – Provided inspiration for the Great Hall and featured in several Hogwarts scenes.
- New College Cloisters – The spot where Mad-Eye Moody turns Draco into a ferret.
A tip: Many of these locations are popular tourist attractions, so I highly recommend booking tickets in advance!
